Almost every single “get healthy” and “weight loss” article you go through will tell you to skip the drive through and make all of your meals yourself. This is certainly excellent advice. Once in a while, though, you absolutely do not want to make a whole meal for your family or even just for yourself. Sometimes you just wish to reach the drive through en route to your home and call it a day. There is no reason that you shouldn’t be able to do this once in a while and be free of the guilt usually associated with “diet slips”. This is because most popular fast food restaurants out there are trying to “healthy up” their choices. Here’s how you’ll be able to eat healthfully when you’re at a fast food spot.
Milk, juice and also water will be the best selections for beverages. When you drink a large soft drink you are adding a lot of empty calories to your day. One helping of pop is eight ounces. Those eight ounces tend to be at least 100 calories and close to ten tablespoons of sugar. Most fast food soda sizes start out at twenty ounces. Typically, however, they may be 30 ounces. This means that your drink alone will put dozens of ounces of sugar into your body as well as several thousand empty calories. It is much healthier to select milk, juice and also normal water.
Common logic tells us that one positive way to get healthy and shed pounds is to skip the drive through and to banish fast food restaurants from your thoughts. While, usually, this is a good idea, if you make intelligent choices, there is no reason to feel guilty for visiting a drive through one or two times a month. Sometimes what you need is to let other people produce your dinner. When you select healthy menu items, you do not have to feel guilty about visiting the drive through.

Steps to make Monk’s Vegan Soup ‘Kenchin-jiru’:
- Prepare the stock first. Place cold Water in a bowl, add cleaned Kombu (Kelp) and Dried Shiitake, and soak for at least 1-2 hours. Softened Shiitake can be cut into small pieces and added to the soup later.
- *Note: Do not add the softened Kombu to the soup. Kombu will get slimy and unpleasant flavour will come out. Use it for something else.
- Cut all Vegetables and Tofu into small pieces that are easy to eat. Finely cut Spring Onion for topping.
- Heat Sesame Oil in a large saucepan or pot, stir-fry Vegetables for a few minutes. Add 1 pinch Salt to season.
- Add 3 cups Kombu (Kelp) and Shiitake stock. (*Avoid the dirt and settlings.) Bring to the simmer and cook for 10 minutes. Season with Soy Sauce and cook until all vegetables are soft.
- *Note: I add 1 pinch Ground Chilli OR White Pepper for a hint of spiciness. This is totally untraditional, but I like it.
- When Vegetables are soft, add Abura-age (Fried Thin Tofu) and Tofu, and bring back to the boil. Then it’s done!
- Sprinkle with finely chopped Spring Onion and enjoy.
